Aurora College Newsletter - 8 March 2024
Principals Comments

It's been a bustling start to the academic year, and I am delighted to witness our students settling into their learning routines with enthusiasm and dedication. As we move forward, I want to share some highlights and important reminders with you all.

Athletics Day Triumph:

Our recent Athletics Day was a resounding success. It provided our students with a fantastic opportunity to showcase their sporting talents, foster house spirit, and engage in a diverse range of athletic events. Witnessing our students come together with such vigour and camaraderie was truly inspiring.

Friday Program Thriving:

Our Friday program continues to thrive, offering students enriching experiences that nurture key competencies such as teamwork, perseverance, and participation. From trying their hand at waka ama to experiencing the rhythms of Strike Percussion and even delving into the depths of scuba diving, our students are embracing new challenges and expanding their horizons in a supportive environment.

Unity in Uniform:

I sincerely thank all parents for your support regarding our uniform policy. It brings me joy to see our students wearing their uniforms with pride, reflecting the values of our school community. As the weather begins to cool, I kindly remind students to wear either the school jacket or a plain black jacket. The school hoodie is the only hoodie that should be worn. However, the BoT has also approved the plain navy Schooltex jersey from the Warehouse as another option instead of the hoodie. For families facing financial constraints, please do not hesitate to contact your child's dean for assistance.

Punctuality Matters:

Prompt attendance is crucial for maximising learning opportunities. I urge all parents to reinforce the importance of punctuality with their children. Our school day commences promptly at 8:45 am, and any tardiness requires students to sign in at the student reception. Your support in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Upcoming Teacher Only Day:

A friendly reminder that this Friday, March 15th, is designated as a Teacher Only Day. Our dedicated teaching staff will be participating in a First Aid course to enhance their skills and ensure the safety of our school community.

Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership.

Warm regards,

Craig Taylor

International Sports Day - 20 February 2024
Technology Department

Kia ora koutou,

What a fabulous start to fabrics, technology and the Friday program! All year levels are humming!

Between learning about measurements and applying these to construction, threading and maintaining a sewing machine, how to make beanies, testing techniques and processes, cutting Perspex and how a lazer cutter works, making patterns and cutting fabric. Wood carving, drilling, filing and sanding! We even burnt our wood in year 10 to create beautiful colouration.

These are just some of the activities students have being engaged in.

It’s been awesome observing the keen and focussed manner in which most of our learners  approach the learning.

Health and safety remains very important and appropriate closed in footwear must be worn in technology.

I can’t wait to see what the end of the term brings!

 Ngā mihi,

Mrs Sexton
