AURORA COLLEGE SPORTS NEWSLETTER

Welcome to the very first Aurora College Sports Newsletter.

Times are changing and our usual methods of communicating through social media platforms are not as effective as they used to be. We are hoping that, along with our school webpage www.auroracollege.school.nz,  this newsletter will contain all the information you need to register and play sport at Aurora College.

The weekly Sports Draw will still be posted on the Aurora College Sports Facebook Page.

SPORTS MECHANICS

We have an amazing opportunity coming up next term for our students. Chris Knight from Athletics Southland is going to be running Sports Mechanic sessions for free on Mondays here at Aurora after school starting on the 21st of July.

Chris is a nationally recognised coach and we are very lucky to have him. These sessions will be of huge benefit to any student who wants to be able to jump higher, run faster or throw harder. Term 3 is a bit quieter for most sports so this is perfect timing to get some extra training in! If you would like to register please click on the link below.

WINTER SPORTS

Most of the winter sports that started in Term 2 carry on in Term 3. These include

  • Netball
  • Rugby
  • Football
  • Hockey

The only exception is basketball, please read on for more information about basketball this term.

Please make sure you let your coach know if you are going to unavailable to play! Last weekend we had to default two games of netball which is very disappointing.

BASKETBALL

The Southland Basketball Association have changed how the basketball competition looks this year for students in Years 9-13. All premier, 1st V Teams, will carry on but all social grades are switching to a 3ex3 competition.

If you played last term but are not playing this term can you please return your basketball uniform to the Sports Office as soon as possible. This applies to all the Year 9/10 boys who played.

Aurora College in conjunction with Southland Secondary School Sports will be running another 3 x 3 tournament in September. Last years one was a great hit. More information will follow closer to the time.

MOUNTAIN BIKING

We were very fortunate to receive funding from Tu Manawa this year to run our “Don't Leave Town Til You've Seen the Country” programme. The aim of this project is to allow our students the opportunity to experience new places and activities. Last term we had three very successful trips to Milford Sound.

This term one of the activities is going to be Mountain Biking. We will ride some local tracks and if we have enough interest we may venture further afield! If you are interested in taking part please register below. We do have a limited number of bikes available here at school if you do not have one.
